China finds excessive harmful substance in Philippine dry banana pieces

China's quality control authorities have found two tons of dry banana pieces imported from Philippines contain excessive sulfur dioxide, which may cause nausea and vomiting.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said here Wednesday that the stained products have been sealed up, and will be returned to the shipper or destroyed.

According to the government report the sulfur dioxide found in the banana pieces, imported by a Qingdao company in East China's Shandong Province, were nearly 25 times of the highest limit as stipulated by Chinese laws on food additive.
