Malaysian and Indonesian glove makers are joining hands to counter a U.S. company's patent infringement claim, local reports said on Wednesday.
At least seven Malaysian glove producers and one Indonesian glove company have teemed up so far to contest U.S.-based Tillotson Corp's claim that their exports of nitrile gloves to the United States had a patent infringement problem, Malaysia's national news services Bernama said.
The Malaysian companies, including Top Glove Corp, is making the move through the Malaysian Rubber Glove Manufacturers Association.
According to Bernama, Tillotson Corp lodged a complaint with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on May 30 this year, requesting investigation into possible intellectual property infringement among 30 nitrile glove manufacturers, dealers and importers around the world, including more than 10 Malaysian companies.
The U.S company is asking a royalty of two U.S. dollars for every 1,000 nitrile gloves imported into the U.S.
Bernama said that Top Glove is the world's largest rubber glove maker and the company believed that with a big number in the newly- formed coalition, it can succeed in the contest against the U.S. company's claims.
