China's health authority has blacklisted four milk beverages for containing insufficient protein and excessive soluble gluside.
The four brands were picked out after the latest nationwide inspection of milk beverages, the ministry said in a statement seen on its official website Friday.
The health authority listed two products of "Super Girl TM" produced in Tangshan city of north China's Hebei Province, "Youran" milk from Harbin, capital of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province and "A Boshi" juice milk from Changchun, capital of northeast China's Jilin Province.
The ministry suspended the production and sale of the four products and asked the companies to recall their products.
"Any restaurant and shop which continues to sell these products will be punished according to the law," the statement said.
The local health departments will also check the production procedures and quality control systems of the four manufacturers and announce appropriate punishments including fines, the statement said.
Milk beverages refer to beverages whose components consist of at least 30 percent milk and 70 percent water and other substances.
In 2005, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine conducted a sample survey of milk beverages in ten provinces, finding that 14.3 percent of the products sampled did not meet the standards.
