Mexico will not give in to the United States' pressure to open its aviation industry, Mexican Communication and Transportation Minister Luis Tellez said on Friday.
This position will be held "until Mexico's aviation and aeronautics industry is consolidated and healthy," Tellez said during the 49th anniversary celebrations of Mexico's Association Syndicate of Pilots and Aviators (ASPA).
In Tellez's recent visit to Washington, U.S. officials proposed the opening of Mexico's aviation industry so that U.S enterprises could operate domestic flights in Mexico and let Mexican airlines do the same in the United States.
Tellez said, "We are not going to decide that now. Mexico's President Felipe Calderon's position is contrary to that request."
During the celebration, ASPA pilots told Tellez they feared Mexico would give in to U.S. aviation entrepreneurs.
