The People's Bank of China announced on Monday the issue of a set of commemorative coins for the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games (SOWSG) on Aug. 17.

The coins are comprised of 20,000 quarter ounce gold coins with a face value of 100 yuan and 40,000 half ounce silver coins with face value of five yuan each, but the issue price is yet to be released.

The coins are produced by Shanghai Mint and will be distributed by China Gold Coin Inc.. They are all legal tender in China.

The 2007 SOWSG for the intellectually disabled will start on Oct. 2 in Shanghai, with participation of more than 10,000 athletes and coaches from 170 countries and regions.
