Tokyo stocks plunged almost across the board Friday morning.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 448.64 points, or 2. 61 percent, in the morning to 16,721.96.
The Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 48.94 points, or 2.91 percent, to 1,634.87.
