The average gasoline prices drooped below three dollars a gallon this week in Southern California, which has the highest prices in the United States.
This was the first time since March 9 that gasoline prices dropped below the three-dollar mark, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported on Friday.
The average fell seven cents over the past week to 2.945 dollars a gallon, 15 cents less than last month and 28 cents less than at this time last year, according to the Auto Club's Weekend Gas Watch survey of gas stations.
The average price has dropped 12 times in the past 13 weeks, including a 5.6-cent decline from July 27-Aug. 3.
The most recent time the average price was under three dollars was March 9, when it was 2.934 dollars. The average price then rose steadily, hitting a record of 3.487 dollars a gallon on May 9.
The Auto Club provided this breakdown of gasoline prices in selected portions of California and Nevada as of Friday.
