The Bangladeshi government has given the green signal to a proposal by a Malaysian company for construction of 100,000 flats for low and middle class people of the capital Dhaka.
Finance Adviser Dr AB Mirza Azizul Islam was quoted Tuesday by local newspaper The Independent as saying that the proposal to build 100,000 low-cost flats was approved by the government.
He said the government would ask the concerned authorities to invite an international tender for constructing the flats so that the local construction companies could participate.
"I think not only the Malaysian construction company but also the local construction companies should participate in the tender to construct the flats," he added.
According to the proposal, some 40,000 flats of about 50 square meters (A type) each and some 60,000 flats of 80 square meters (B type) each would be constructed within four years in some suburban residential areas of Dhaka.
