Prices of coffee beans, rubber, pepper and rice, key export items of Vietnam, in the domestic market have decreased slightly since late last month.
Prices of the commodities per kilogram are now 300-3,000 Vietnamese dong (VND) (1.9-18.8 U.S. cents) lower than those in late July, according to local newspaper Labor on Tuesday. A kilogram of pepper is currently sold for 51,000-52,000 VND (around 3.2 dollars), compared with 53,000-54,000 VND (about 3.3 dollars) three weeks ago.
In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam exported nearly 2.9 million tons of rice valued at 904 million dollars, posting respective declines of 24.4 percent and 0.9 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office.
Meanwhile, it exported 893,000 tons of coffee beans worth 1.3 billion dollars, up 56.6 percent and 102.1 percent, respectively; 344,000 tons of rubber worth 659 million dollars, down 3.2 percent and 0.3 percent; and 51,000 tons of pepper worth 153 million dollars, down 42.3 percent in volume but up 17.6 percent in value.
