The First 10+3 Media Cooperation Forum opened in north China's port city of Tianjin on August 21, 2007.

The Forum was proposed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao at the 10th ASEAN Plus China, Japan and Republic of Korea (ROK) Summit ("10+3" Summit) held January in Cebu, the Philippines.

Present at the forum are media leaders from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam, Japan, the ROK and China, as well as officials from Tianjin municipality, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG.) and the ASEAN Secretariat.

Addressing the opening ceremony, People's Daily President Wang Chen said that this year marks the tenth anniversary of 10+3 cooperation, and continuous efforts towards a harmonious East Asia that features political mutual trust, economic win-win, mutual help in security field and learning from each other in culture are in line with the fundamental interests of people from the countries.

The First 10+3 Media Cooperation Forum, based on such consensus, is therefore of innovative significance, Wang said. Media is an important force in promoting the cooperation, as well as a bridge of understanding and exchange between the people. The Forum itself is a demonstration of our real efforts to enrich the 10+3 cooperation by exploring new ways of coordination and pushing the relations to a new high.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao, Tianjin deputy Party chief Xing Yuanmin and public affairs senior officer of the ASEAN Secretariat Suchela Phachaiyapoom also addressed the opening ceremony.
The Forum is sponsored by People's Daily, supported by Tianjin Binhai New Area and presented by Tianjin Daily News Group.
