Nepali trekking entrepreneurs have demanded reduction of trekking charges for the trekkers and permission of running a trekking agency, local newspaper The Rising Nepal reported on Monday.

The trekking entrepreneurs demanded permission from Pokhara, headquarters of Western Development Region and Nepali tourism hub, some 140 km west of capital Kathmandu, to run a new trekking agency and reduce trekking charges by 50 percent to 75 percent for the trekkers while going for trekking.

Insisting that alternative trekking routes should be explored after the construction of motorway to Annapurna trekking area, speakers of the fourteenth convention of the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) held in Pokhara on Sunday said the tourism sector should be headed towards new destination.

Phokhara Tourism Board member Basu Tripathi, among other speakers, said alternative trekking routes should be identified to face the challenge of motorway.

Speaking at the program, chief of Pokhara TAAN, Narayan Aryal said the tourism business has flourished after the restoration of peace in the nation.
