World's leading hi-tech firm inaugurates plant in Vietnam

Hon Hai of China's Taiwan, one of the world's leading hi-tech groups, on Tuesday, inaugurated a plant in Vietnam's northern Bac Ninh province, the first step in reaching its target of investing 5 billion U.S. dollars in the country.

Addressing at the inauguration ceremony, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked the provincial People's Committee and local relevant agencies to facilitate Hon Hai, especially in term of manpower training for the camera and computer component plant.

The Vietnamese government and localities will support Hon Hai' s investment and development in the country, he noted.

Hon Hai, which has invested 163 million U.S. dollars in Vietnam 's northern provinces of Bac Ninh and Bac Giang, has eyed to become biggest foreign investor in Vietnam with investment of at least five billion dollars, total export turnovers of 5 billion dollars in the country, and employment of some 300,000 Vietnamese laborers in 3-5 years.

It has also targeted to help Vietnam develop its hi-tech industry, and become an important link in the world's chain of providing hi-tech and electronic products.

Besides, the group has targeted to build a hi-tech city, which has features of protecting environment and saving energy in Bac Ninh and Bac Giang. The future 80-km city will comprise of an ecological park, industrial zones, trade, entertainment and accommodation areas, and electricity and water plants.

Vietnam is estimated to lure 134 China's Taiwan-backed projects with registered capital of 600.5 million dollars in the first eight months of this year, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment.

As of Aug. 22, China's Taiwan with 1,706 operating projects with total registered capital of nearly 9.2 billion dollars ranked the third among 76 countries and regions having investment in Vietnam.
