Chinese share prices recovered some of Wednesday's losses on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closed at 5,167.88 points, up 58.45 points, or 1.14 percent, from the previous close.
The smaller Shenzhen Component Index rose 1.24 percent, or 216.07 points, to end the day at 17,659.29 points.
The combined turnover of the two bourses remained buoyant to stand at 242.5 billion yuan (31.9 billion U.S. dollars), though slightly lower than 252 billion yuan (33.2 billion U.S. dollars) recorded a day earlier.
