In a meeting with Lao Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, Chinese entrepreneurs expressed their interest in implementing more projects, especially electricity ones, in Laos, according to sources from the country on Thursday.

During the meeting with the prime minister on Wednesday, corporate officials from China's Datang International Power Generation Company expressed their hope that it would be allowed to participate in developing a coal-run electricity plant in northern Xayaboury province.

Construction of the 1,800-MW plant with total investment of nearly 2.1 billion U.S. dollars, which are expected to come from the Lao government and a Thai investor, is scheduled to begin late 2008 or early 2009.

The government and the Chinese firm inked a memorandum of understanding on developing a power plant in northern Bokeo province on Wednesday, said the sources.
