Vietnam set up six industrial parks in the first eight months of this year, raising the total to 148, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Tuesday.

The six new parks with total area of 836 hectares are mainly located in the southern provinces of An Giang, Binh Phuoc and Dong Nai. Now, Vietnam has 148 industrial parks with total area of 32, 120 hectares, of which 90 are in use, and 58 under construction.

To date, industrial parks nationwide have gained occupancy rate of 53.5 percent, attracting 24.2 billion U.S. dollars worth of foreign direct investment. They have also lured a large amount of domestic investment.

Besides industrial parks, Vietnam currently has eight economic zones which have so far enticed some 8 billion dollars in foreign and domestic investment. The Vietnamese government has recently decided to form the ninth economic zone.
