Vietnam reaped 544 million U.S. dollars from exporting electric wires and cables in the first eight months of this year, a year-on-year rise of 24.5 percent, according to the country's General Statistics Office on Tuesday.
The exports, mainly produced by foreign-invested enterprises in Vietnam, mostly went to Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Singapore, the Philippines, Brazil and Australia. Besides Japan, the biggest market of Vietnamese electric wires and cables, firms in Vietnam are seeking potential outlets in other Asia-Pacific and Latin American countries.
Vietnam is expected to post 30-percent increase in electric wire and cable export earnings annually in the 2006-2010 period. The earnings are estimated at more than two billion dollars in 2010.
The country's electric wire and cable export revenues stood at 701 million dollars in 2006, up 34 percent against 2004, said the office.
