Vietnam to host int'l tourism exhibition next month

Vietnam will host an international tourism exhibition on Oct. 5-7 in southern Ho Chi Minh City, local newspaper Young People reported Thursday.

The exhibition, themed "Discovering Mekong Jewels: Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia", is expected to draw the participation of 160 local and foreign firms, the paper quoted the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Department as reporting.

It also comprises of a meeting of senior tourism officials from the three countries, who will discuss measures on strengthening regional tourism cooperation.

The exhibition is expected to welcome Miss Earth 2006 Hill Yesenia, and beauty queens from Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore.

Vietnam, welcoming nearly 3.6 million foreign visitors and 17.5 million domestic ones in 2006, expects 4.2-4.4 million international arrivals and 18.5 million local visitors, and tourism revenues of 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2007, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
