Chinese Vice-Premier Hui Liangyu called for the need to maintain good momentum in agricultural development during a recent inspection tour to southwest China's Guizhou Province.

"China must fully implement all the preferential policies for farmers to increase their income steadily, and ensure stable grain production and sufficient market supply," said Hui.

During his tour of Guizhou from Sept. 4 to 7, the vice-premier visited ethnic villages and went to the fields, cultivation farms and local rural enterprises, listening to reports on rural economic and social development.

He urged local governments to increase subsidies for pig-raising and develop modern agriculture in line with local conditions.

"To ensure adequate market supply, we must work hard to reap a bumper Autumn grain harvest and boost livestock production," said Hui.

Improvement of farmland infrastructure construction will guarantee sustainable agricultural development, said Hui, adding the focus should be placed on building more water control projects, accelerating agricultural innovation and raising the ability of comprehensive agricultural development.

While visiting some farm households, Hui said China must continue to increase its investment in poverty relief and build a minimum living allowance system in rural areas.
