Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has signed a deal with the U.S.-based company CIT Aerospace to lease two Airbus A330-200 aircraft, Emirates News Agency reported on Saturday.
The two A330-200 aircraft will be delivered to the Abu Dhabi- based Etihad in January and March of 2009 and will replace two aircraft currently leased by the airline, the report said.
"Etihad continues to grow at an impressive rate and the introduction of the two new CIT-leased A330-200s into the fleet will have a major impact because they can operate on both our long and short haul flights," the airline's CEO James Hogan was quoted as saying.
Etihad currently has 12 A330-200s in its 27-aircraft fleet and a further three will be added by the end of 2007.
In June, the airline signed a deal with Airbus to buy 12 new aircraft, including five A330s.
Established in July 2003, Etihad launched its first flight on Nov. 6, 2003. It provides services to 48 global destinations for now.
