Vietnam gained 25.4 billion U.S. dollars from exporting products to members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in the first eight months of this year, posting a year-on-year rise of 23.8 percent, and accounting for some 81 percent of the country's total export revenues in the period.
Between January and August, the United States was Vietnam's biggest export market with revenues of 6.8 billion dollars; followed by Japan, nearly four billion dollars; Australia, over 1. 8 billion dollars; Singapore, roughly 1.5 billion dollars; and China, more than 1.3 billion dollars, local newspaper Investment on Monday quoted the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment as reporting.
Major items to the region included seafood, textiles and garments, footwear, fruits and vegetables, and coffee.
APEC, established in 1989 for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region, has 21 members, including China, the United States, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam, which account for more than a third of the world's population, some 60 percent of the world's gross domestic product, and half of the world trade.
