Health-insurance costs paid by U. S. businesses for their workers rose 6.1 percent this year, the smallest increase in eight years, said a study released Tuesday.
Health-care costs grew less than the 7.7 percent increase in 2006, according to the journal Health Affairs.
Sixty percent of employers in the United States provide health insurance this year, down from 61 percent in 2006, the survey found.
Sixty-five percent of workers in businesses that offer coverage get it through the workplace, the same percentage as last year.
Since 2001, premiums for family coverage have increased 78 percent, while wages have gained 19 percent and inflation 17 percent, according to the survey.
