Vietnam's Finance Ministry is constructing an integrated financial management information system (IFMIS), and offering public services via electronic means.
"We are actively developing the IFMIS with different sub- systems. In 2009, we plan to put into operation the Treasury and Budget Management Information System and the Vietnam Customs Information System," Dang Duc Mai, director of the Department of Financial Informatics and Statistics Department under the Finance Ministry, said here Thursday when opening an international conference and exhibition, called Vietnam ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in Finance 2007.
The Vietnam Customs Information System has full functions regarding customs management at central and local levels, in which the customs clearance system is mainly based on automation, risk management techniques, and advanced equipment, he said.
The development of the IFMIS is part of Vietnam's plan on implementing electronic government in the finance sector, under which the sector should, by 2010, offer at least five public services via the Internet, namely the electronic customs declaration, the electronic tax declaration system, the online public asset registration system, the online budget code granting system, and the online forum for discussing policies with the Finance Minister.
Applying ICT, the finance sector has already constructed five databases, including those on managing 2.5 million taxpayers and 77,000 state budget beneficiaries, public assets, state budget collection and spending, and over 17,000 legal documents.
Now, the sector has 2,874 servers, 1,778 local area networks, 37,384 personal computers, wide area network coverage in all 64 cities and provinces nationwide, and 2,930 informatics staff, he said.
Some 4,000 foreign and local officials, experts, entrepreneurs and visitors are expected to participate in the conference and exhibition. Over 40 speakers are to highlight the ICT application in the local finance sector, challenges it faces, and solutions provided by major information technology companies.
The two-day event is organized by the department and International Data Group, the world's leading technology media, events and research company.
