Laos is estimated to make export earnings of 6.2 trillion kip (648.7 million U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of this year, a year-on-year rise of 4.4 percent, Lao newspaper Vientiane Times reported Tuesday.
Copper exports are set to increase to 293.6 million dollars between January and September from 288.2 million dollars in the same period last year. The respective figures for gold exports are 77.9 million dollars and 69.5 million dollars, according to a report of the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
Other exports with bigger revenues in the nine-month period include garment and farm products. Meanwhile, timber and electricity saw declines in export values.
Laos is estimated to spend 5.9 trillion kip (621.7 million dollars) importing goods, including oil, vehicles, spare parts, food, clothes, construction equipment, and farming machinery, in the nine months of this year, down 26 percent.
Border trade between Laos and its neighbors is estimated to surge by 32.6 percent to 36.4 billion kip (3.8 million dollars), 52 percent of which are Laos' imports.
