Euro hits new high vs. dollar in Tokyo

The euro continued to gain ground against the U.S. dollar Wednesday in Tokyo. The dollar, meanwhile, hovered in the upper 114 yen range.

At 5 p.m., the euro traded at 1.4126-4129 dollars and 162.40-44 yen, compared with Tuesday's 5 p.m. quotes of 1.4133-4143 dollars and 162.24-34 yen in New York, and 1.4073-4076 dollars and 161.45- 49 yen in Tokyo.

The dollar was quoted at 114.94-97 yen at 5 p.m. against Tuesday's 5 p.m. quotes of 114.74-84 yen in New York and 114.70-73 yen in Tokyo.

It traded between 114.54 yen and 115.10 yen during the day, changing hands most frequently at 114.82 yen.
