Indonesian leading automotive company Indomobil Group will assemble and sell the first Chinese sports utility vehicles (SUV) in local market under the license of Chery Automobile Co. beginning in October.
The 2,000 cc SUV named Tiggo was first introduced in Indonesia at the Jakarta International Motor Show in July, during which it got 40 orders.
Indomobil has targeted to sell at least 300 Tiggos by the end of the year, leading economic daily Bisnis Indonesia reported Thursday.
The SUV was priced at 135 million rupiah (14,737 U.S. dollars), far below its Japanese rivals of the same class like Honda CRV, Suzuki Grand Vitara and Nissan X-Trail that sell above 200 million rupiah.
Indomobil also holds license for Chery QQ city cars and has sold some 1,000 units since the Chinese firm made its debut here last September.
