Vietnam recorded gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 8.16 percent in the first nine months of this year, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Monday.
In the nine-month period, the industry and construction sector posts year-on-year production growth of 10.15 percent; the agricultural, forestry and fisheries sector, 3.02 percent; and the service one, 8.54 percent, the paper quoted reports at a regular government meeting last weekend.
With the economic growth in the first nine months, the country needs to strive to post GDP growth of 9.3 percent in the last quarter of this year, aiming to fulfill the target of 8.5 percent for the whole year, said Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.
To this end, Dung has asked ministries and localities to focus on curbing the consumer price increase to ensure that this year's consumer price index will be lower than the targeted economic growth, minimizing smuggling, and actively preventing natural disasters.
Vietnam gained economic growth of 8.17 percent in 2006.
