Hong Kong's foreign currency reserve assets grew to 140.8 billion U.S. dollars in September, up 2.5 billion on August, the Monetary Authority of Hong Kong said Monday.

The figure represents about seven times the currency in circulation, or 36 percent of Hong Kong dollar M3.

Hong Kong is the world's ninth-largest holder of foreign currency reserves after the Mainland, Japan, Russia, China's Taiwan, South Korea, India, Brazil and Singapore.
