Vietnam had 32 seagoing vessels detained at foreign ports between January and mid-October, mainly due to their poor maintenance and working capacity, local newspaper Youth reported Monday.
Now, Vietnam is ranked the 7th among 10 countries having highest numbers of detained vessels. The main reasons for the detainment of Vietnamese ships include insufficient maintenance, repair and equipment, and poor capability of some officers and sailors.
Vietnam had 19 ships detained at foreign ports in 2002 and 38 vessels in 2004.
The country currently has nearly 1,200 seagoing vessels, of which 432 operate on international routes, the newspaper said.
