Between January and September, Vietnam, whose population currently stands at over 84 million, assembled 49,500 automobiles, and imported 15,000 completely-built automobiles worth 307 million U.S. dollars, respectively up 63.9 percent and 63.6 percent in volume over the same period last year, according to the country's General Statistics Office.

Meanwhile, it turned out nearly two million motorbikes, posting a year-on-year surge of 27 percent, and spent 96.7 million dollars importing 90,800 motorbikes, up 89.1 percent in value and 124.7 percent in volume.

The number of motorbikes on Vietnam's roads is forecast to rise to 25 million in 2010, some 31 million in 2015 and 35 million in 2020.
