Vietnam is determined to improve its business environment and accelerate international integration, aiming to facilitate foreign investors, including U.S. ones, in doing business in the country, said Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet on Monday.
Vietnamese relevant agencies are ready to have frank dialogue with U.S. investors about their difficulties in Vietnam, Vietnam News Agency quoted Triet as saying when he was meeting with visiting U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez on Monday.
The president believes that Vietnam, with stable economic momentum, and safe investment environment, will become an attractive destination to U.S. investors.
Triet also hopes that after the visit, Gutierrez will propose the U.S. government to remove supervision mechanism on Vietnamese exports to the United States.
The U.S. commerce secretary, who visits Vietnam from Nov. 4-8, said after the visit, U.S. firms will see more business opportunities in Vietnam.
The United States wants to not only boost trade with Vietnam, but also support it in such fields as manpower development and education, he said.
Trade between the United States and Vietnam increased to 9.7 billion U.S. dollars in 2006 from 1.5 billion dollars in 2001 when the two sides signed a bilateral trade agreement.
As of September, the United States, with a total investment of over 2.6 billion, ranked the 7th among countries and regions investing in Vietnam. Now, over 1,000 U.S. firms are operating in the country.
