The Chinese government firmly opposes a United States move to initiate combined anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations into Chinese-made sodium nitrite, said a spokesman with the Ministry of Commerce on Thursday.
"This is the eighth combined anti-dumping and anti-subsidy probe by the United States against Chinese products," said Wang Xinpei.
The frequent probes had caused strong discontent among Chinese companies.
The latest investigation was decided by the U.S. Department of Commerce on Nov. 29.
Wang said at a press conference that the two countries should settle such issues through dialogue and consultation. "Trade protectionism is of no use."
"Such moves are unwise and wrong and have complicated economic and trade relations between China and the United States," Wang said.
"They send the wrong signals to U.S. industry and bring unnecessary pressure to both governments," he said.
Last year, China exported 170,000 U.S. dollars worth of sodium nitrite to the United States. Sodium nitrite is used as a color fixative and preservative in meats and fish.
