The Dubai-based Emirates Airline has denied rumors that it was planning to buy stake in British Airways, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Saturday.
"Emirates has no interest in taking a stake in British Airways. We are concentrating on our own organic growth," an Emirates spokeswoman was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, John Strickland, director of the London-based JLS Consulting, said that Emirates may be too busy with its own rapid expansion at present to think about buying into British Airways.
"They have a very clear development strategy, they are able to tap into many new traffic flows, which would never be accessible to many European carriers," Strickland added.
According to the report, Emirates has huge room for growth from Dubai International Airport, which will see its capacity grow to 70 million passengers annually within three years.
In addition, the carrier has ordered more than 200 planes to serve its growing network.
The market speculation on a potential bid by Emirates pushed the British Airways' shares higher in London on Friday but the stock eased following the denial.
