It is not fair to say that the Labor Contract Law is "unfair" to employers, said Xie Liangmin, deputy director of the legal department, All-China Federation of Trade Unions, in a recent video interview with People's Daily Online.

Xie insisted that the legal system is "fair" to both employers and employees. "Every law has its emphasis," said Xie, "the Employment Contract Law (effective since January 1, 2008) focuses on the protection of employees; while employers' rights and interests are defined by relevant laws such as the Corporate Law."

He concluded that the whole legal system provides equal rights to employers and employees.

All-China Federation of Trade Unions has been engaged in the entire legislation process of this law, and is contributing to the formulation of implementation guidelines, said Xie.
