PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) has signed a deal with Toyota Motor Corp. to supply 18,000 minibuses and pickups a year to Japan, an executive from the ADM said Tuesday.
The 1,500-cc car will use the Toyota brand in Japan -- Toyota Lite Ace for pickup and Toyota Town Ace for the minibus version, said ADM's vice president Sudirman.
"The contract covers a supply of 18,000 units a year," he told reporters here.
Introduced here last November, the car is named Daihatsu Grand Max in the Indonesian market.
"For export sales, we add features to meet safety standards in Japan, such as airbag and fog lamps," he said.
Unlike the Indonesian version, the car manufactured for Japan has its emission system adjusted to meet the Euro III standards.
Sudirman said ADM would deliver at least 1,500 units per month directly to Toyota's Tahara Port in Japan.
Daihatsu Motor Co. has a controlling stake of 61.75 percent in ADM, Toyota Tsuho Corp. of 6.38 percent and Indonesia's PT Astra International 31.87 percent.
Last November, ADM expanded its Jakarta plant to boost production capacity to 211,000 units a year from 97,000 units, becoming Daihatsu's biggest plant outside Japan. Source: Xinhua
