European Consumer Center (ECC) Romania was inaugurated on Tuesday in Bucharest for quick settlement of cross-border commercial litigations.
With assistance from the freshly inaugurated center, Romanian consumers will be able to settle cross-border trade litigation in 10 weeks at the most, Center director Razvan Resmerita said on Tuesday at the inauguration.
ECC Romania, co-financed by the European Commission and the government of Romania, was inaugurated in the presence of both European Commissioner for Consumer Protection Meglena Kuneva and President of the National Consumer Protection Authority (ANPC) DanVlaicu.
Romania and Bulgaria are the last member states to benefit from the implementation of the European Consumer Centers Network. In Romania, this center will also boost ANPC's capacity to more efficiently exert its duties, Meglena Kuneva said.
"ANPC is one of the few European authorities commissioned to settle the citizens' individual complaints. I hope that ECC Romania and the other consumer protection associations take over apart of ANPC's responsibilities, especially those related to the settlement of individual litigations between the company and the consumer, allowing the state to handle overall market problems," said Dan Vlaicu.
The European Consumer Centers Network is an EU-wide structure with the purpose to strengthen consumers' confidence, provide consultancy to European citizens on their rights as consumers and facilitate the settlement of the problems they come against, especially in the case of procurements from another European state(cross-border operations).
Providing direct information about subjects of interest for consumers, the institution is a materialization of the European Commission's policy regarding consumer protection. The center will perform cross-border comparisons on problems of interest for consumers, such as prices and legislation. Source: Xinhua
