Indonesia's budget carrier Mandala Air is preparing a budget to acquire 30 brand new Airbus jet linersuntil 2011 at the cost of 1.8 billion US dollars, an executive said Tuesday.
The company last year received six planes of A319 and A320 types as part of the long term fleet modernization program.
The six planes replaced aging Boeing 737-200s and 737-400s in Mandala.
"The purchase value for 30 Airbus planes totaled 1.8 billion dollars," Mandala chief executive officer Warwick Brady was quoted by leading news website Detikcom as saying.
"We already paid the down payment and received six planes in 2007," he said.
Brady said five foreign banks have submitted their bids to partner with Mandala in the purchase.
"We have not decided because it will need further negotiations," he said without citing the banks' names. Source: Xinhua
