The Japanese Association to Support the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics Games announced on April 24 its establishment in Beijing. The supporting association, co-sponsored by the Japanese Association in Beijing, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China and the Japanese School of Beijing, as well as China's other Japanese organizations, will organize the Japanese in China to support the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games; support the Japanese delegation; and provide assistance for athletes and other activities.
Mr. Yuji Miyamoto, Japanese Ambassador to China, said that "Japan will cheer for China's athletes just as we hope China will cheer for ours."
The Beijing Olympic Games and Paralympic Games are two of the world's great ceremonies. It is also the third time an Asian country will host the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games in 20 years. As Japanese people living long-term in China, we sincerely hope that the Beijing Olympic Games are successful; and also wish the Japanese team to achieve high scores, said Iwasaki Tsugiya, chairman of the supporting association.
Ichita Itabashi, executive director of the Japanese Olympic Committee on April 24 said that the flame will arrive in Tokyo tomorrow and arrive at Nagano the day after tomorrow. Although there have been some incidents, the Japanese public strongly support the torch relay; and many have rushed to participate in the celebration activities. We believe that the Olympic torch relay in Japan will a successful conclusion.
