The recent outbreak hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) in China, which has killed 25 children till now, will not threaten the upcoming 29th Olympics Games in this summer, a representative from Beijing Bureau of the World Health Organization (WHO) said on May 4, 2008.
"I don't think the HFMD will threaten this summer Olympics, because the disease just centers on infants and children", Hans Troedsson, representative of Beijing Bureau of the WHO said. However, Hans Troedsson warned that June and July are the high-incidence season for HFMD. The number of infectors will further increase with the coming warmer weather.
Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness of infants and children under the age of 5. the death rate of severe patients is quite high.
Recently, Hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) caused by the Coxsackie virus and Enterovirus 71 occurred in some regions of China, and a few infants and children were killed caused by the deficiency of central nervous system and respiratory system.
