"China's economy will continue to grow rapidly in the coming decades," said Mr. Albert Keidel, senior research fellow with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, at a symposium recently organized by the Brookings Institution.

Mr. Keidel believes that China has a "high-quality" and "highly efficient" central government, which has always had good intentions for the nation's future development. During the process of reform, some new problems have popped up. China needs to handle all kinds of relationships well; and guarantee macro-economic policies and measures.

Mr. Keidel is optimistic about China's economy; and believes that after the Party's 17th National Congress, the government will make efforts to prevent the fast-moving economy from overheating. "The basic aspects of China's economy are good," said Keidel, which are demonstrated in two ways. Firstly, China has a tradition of education, and its abundant supply of high-tech professionals and skilled labor will ensure the human resources required for a fast-growing economy. Secondly, China has a banking system suited for its development.

Mr. Keidel added that both the Chinese government and people have acquired a sharpened awareness of the environment in recent years. This year in particular, China has proposed a national plan coping with climate change; and has adopted new and more difficult legislation. Mr. Keidel believes that as sustainable development deepens and the economy progresses, China will allocate more funds, resources and technology to environmental protection.
