The People's Bank of China (PBOC),the country's central bank, announced on June 22 it would issue two commemorative coins on June 30 to mark the 30th anniversary of the first issue of modern Chinese precious metal commemorative coins.

The bank would issue 10,000 gold coins with a face value of 100 yuan (14.7 U.S. dollars) and 300,000 silver coins with a face value of 10 yuan, said a statement on the PBOC website.

The coins would feature the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvest in the Temple of Heaven on one side, and a panda on the other.

China issued the first precious metal commemorative coin in 1979. The gold coin was to mark the 30th anniversary of the foundation of the People's Republic of China.
