Hong Kong stocks edged down a modest 16.66 points, or 0.08 percent, to open at 20,779.77 on Wednesday.
The Wall Street closed slightly higher overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.36 percent and the S&P 500 up 0.3 percent. The Chinese mainland market, which opened one hour earlier than the Hong Kong market, was slightly lower.
