There were a total of 336,995 personal credit cards in circulation in the second quarter of 2009,slightly increasing by 1.89 percent from the previous quarter, according to the figures released on Wednesday by the Monetary Authority of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).
The numbers of Pataca (MOP) cards, Hong Kong dollar (HKD) cards and Renminbi (RMB) cards were 272,889, 55,265 and 8,841 respectively in the period, which respective went up by 2.22 percent, 0.46 percent and 0.95 percent quarter-to-quarter, the figures showed.
Credit card credit limit granted by banks in Macao amounted to 6.16 billion patacas (780 million U.S. dollars) at the end of the second quarter, down 1.95 percent from the previous quarter. Credit card receivables reached 1.05 billion patacas, with a delinquency ratio of 1.17 percent in the period.
In the second quarter of this year, the credit card turnover edged up slightly by 0.26 percent from the previous quarter to 1.53 billion patacas (194 million U.S. dollars), while credit card repayments, including payments for interest and fees, dropped 12.03 percent from the previous quarter to 1.48 billion patacas (187 million U.S. dollars) in the second quarter, according to the Monetary Authority.
