According to relevant departmental data from Beijing, the proportion of service industries in Beijing exceeds 71 percent: the average level among developed countries and 30 percentage points higher than the national average. Beijing has taken the lead in establishing a service industry-led economy in China.

The per capita of added value of services broke 5,000 US dollars and equals the average global GDP per capita, ranking number one among China's provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities.
Liang Changxin said that in 2007, seven major industries – the financial services industry, information services, wholesale and retail trade, science and technology services, business services, transport and real estate sectors – in Beijing accounted for more than 5 percent of the national economy, becoming the city’s pillar industries.
