768 food production licenses for 720 enterprises have been revoked, according to an announcement released by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the PRC on its website. The targeted companies include those involved in the melamine incident, such as Sanlu Group and Guangzhou Jinding Dairy Products Factory.
The latest list of food production licenses canceled covers various food categories, including baby and infant formula, dairy products, beverages, meat products, ice cream, rice, canned foodstuffs, edible oil and biscuits. Among them, the Shijiazhuang-based Sanlu Group's license, number "QS1300-0501-0152," was canceled. This license covered dairy products including sterilized milk, yogurt and whole milk powder. In addition, Fengning Sanlu Dairy Company's license "XK00-004-00008" for producing baby and infant formula (wet processing) was also canceled as it was not renewed after the expiration date.
Guangzhou Jinding Dairy Products Factory, which was implicated in last year's melamine incident, also appeared on the list. All four of its licenses for producing baby and infant formula were revoked. The reason was that it "no longer produces licensed products". Guangzhou Jinding had already ceased manufacturing products about two to three years ago and has commissioned factories outside Guangzhou for production instead, leaving a trading firm in Guangzhou only, said Li Hongbing, Director of the Food Division at the Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision of Guangzhou Municipality, on February 16.
