Construction of the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway officially began on February 26. This means all the three high-speed passenger-dedicated railway lines between Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing have begun construction and the intercity rail transport network in the Yangtze River Delta region is taking shape.

In the future, travel between any two of the three cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou will take less than one hour.

This double track electric high-speed railway adopts an entirely closed design with grade separation crossings, showcasing the highest design standards in Zhejian Province. Trains can run at a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, with travel time between Shanghai and Hangzhou taking 38 minutes.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway project has a total investment of 29.68 billion yuan and is collaboratively sponsored and built by the Ministry of Railways, Zhejiang Province, the city of Shanghai and the Baosteel Group. The Ministry of Railways is also intent on listing this golden line as a group company on the stock market. If it succeeds, it will become China's third railway to go public, after Daqin railway and Guangshen railway, said Yu Jian'er, General Manager of the Zhejiang Provincial Railway Investment Group Company.
