Sinohydro Corporation and the Benin Electricity Corporation (CEB) recently signed a commercial contract for the Adjarala hydropower station project in Lome, the capital of the Republic of Togo. The contract value is about 282 million euros, according to information from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council.

The Adjarala hydropower station project is located on the Mono River that borders Togo and Benin. The main construction of the project includes an embankment dam with an average height of around 40 meters and a total length of 3,700 meters. The hydroelectric power station will have an installed capacity of 147 megawatts with corresponding electricity transmission lines laid. The total construction period will last 45 months. The project will be jointly owned by the two nations, Togo and Benin.

In recent years, due to the increasing demand for electricity and sharply rising natural gas prices, Togo and Benin have suffered increasingly serious blackouts. The Adjarala hydropower station has therefore become an infrastructure project that both nations are eager to build.
