Central-Asian Natural Gas Pipeline (Horgos) Company was established in Horgos Port at the border of China and Kazakhstan on June 9, indicating that construction of the Chinese section of China's first transnational gas transmission pipeline officially started.
The company is the wholly-owned subsidiary set up by the Central Asian (Kazakhstan) Natural Gas Pipeline Company in China, with a registered capital of 50 million USD. It is responsible for the design, construction, operation and natural gas transmission of the Chinese section of the Central Asian natural gas pipeline.
The Central Asian natural gas pipeline stretches from the border of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in the west, passes through central Uzbekistan and southern Kazakhstan, and enters China at Horgos Port in Xinjiang.
The pipeline is about 1,801 kilometers in total length, including a 1,300-kilometer-long section across Kazakhstan. A 4.4-kilometer-long double-line duct and a commercial metering station will be built in China.
The pipeline is expected to achieve single-pipe gas flow by the end of this year and double-pipe gas flow in 2010. After the project is completed, natural gas, dubbed "blue gold," will be delivered via this pipeline from Central Asia to China, with a planned gas delivery capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year.
The Central Asian natural gas pipeline will connect with the West-East Gas Transmission Project which is under construction over the same period. With a total length of over 10,000 kilometers, it will become the world's longest oil gas transmission pipeline of the highest grade. The two projects have a total investment of around 30 billion USD, involving three foreign countries and 14 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China.
