China's steelmakers and metal smelters, consumers of about a third of the country's power, raised demand "slightly" in June as they restarted stalled capacity, said an official at the China Electricity Council.
"We did see a slight improvement in power requirement from the steel and metals industry," Xue Jing, director general at the council's statistics and information division, said yesterday. "This is one factor that contributed to improving power production in June."
Daily electricity output rose 3.8 percent in mid-June, the first gain since March, from a year ago, the Shanghai Securities News said yesterday, citing the China National Power Dispatching and Communications Center.
