China's online gaming exports exceeded 70 million USD in 2008

In 2008, over 30 types of China's online games were exported to overseas markets, which covered over 20 countries and regions such as North America, Europe, Japan and Southeast Asia. The total value of online gaming exports reached 71.78 million USD, an increase of 30.5 percent year-on-year. Revenue from overseas markets has become a new profit growth point for China's online gaming enterprises, according to the Ministry of Culture.

China's online gaming exports in 2008 mainly stemmed from several enterprises, the top five of which had a market share of 94.3 percent.

Perfect World Company took first position, recorded 209 million yuan in exports and had a market share of 30.5 percent. NetDragon Websoft Incorporation ranked second, recorded 131 million yuan and had a market share of 21.9 percent. Kingsoft Software Corporation ranked third, recorded 92.40 million yuan and had 15.5 percent; 9you.com ranked fourth, recorded 87 million yuan and had 14.6 percent; Shanda Interactive Entertainment Limited (SNDA) ranked fifth, recorded 43.40 million yuan and had 7.3 percent.

Southeast Asia was China's largest online gaming export market and accounted for 51.2 percent of the total, followed by Europe and North America, which together accounted for 28.3 percent. Japan and South Korea together accounted for 14.4 percent, and other markets including Africa and Australasia accounted for around 6.1 percent.
