China to build seven 10-gW wind farms&
China attaches great importance to the development of new and renewable energies, and estimates that the development planning of new energies will be completed within the year, said Sun Qin, vice chief of National Energy Administration, at the First Asia Energy Forum held in Guangzhou on August 9.
He said that at present China's hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, solar power and bio-energy industries are growing rapidly. The installed capacity of wind power generation has achieved multiple-fold growth for three consecutive years, currently ranking the fourth in the world. Solar electrical energy generation ranks first in the world, and the solar photovoltaic industry has also achieved rapid growth.
As of the first half of 2009, a total of 7,467 small thermal power units had been shut down, and their installed capacity totaled 54.07 million kW, with annual sulfur dioxide emissions reduced by 1.06 million tons and carbon dioxide by 124 million tons.
Wang Yang, secretary of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, said at the forum that Guangdong will strengthen efforts in energy-saving and emission reduction as well as the development and utilization of new energies and clean energies. In addition, Guangdong will promote scientific and technological innovation and effectively protect intellectual property rights in the new energy field.
The Asian Energy Forum aims to establish a dialogue mechanism for exchanges in the fields of Asian energies, discuss and seek strategic channels for low carbon economies in Asia, and promote the growth of Asian economies and cooperation between Asian countries in the energy field.
